The main classification of steel coils

Oct 20, 2021

Steel coil - A finished steel product, such as sheet or strip, that has been rolled or coiled. Based on the experience accumulated over the years, general steel coils are classified into hot-rolled steel coils and cold-rolled steel coils, or stainless steel coils, carbon steel coils and galvanized steel coils according to current products and international standards.

Hot-rolled coils are made from semi-finished products that are rolled and annealed to a certain thickness and then rolled into coils. Hot rolled steel is used to make pipes, steel doors and tanks, or further processed into cold rolled steel.

Cold-rolled sheet in coil form is produced by "pickling" hot rolled sheet in a weak acid solution to remove rust, then the sheet is washed, brushed, dried, oiled and uncoiled, and finally cold rolled through the sheet. It is passed through a reducer under pressure and wound into a roll. Cold rolled steel is a higher yield product with smoother surfaces, higher dimensional accuracy (thickness, width, length) and higher strength. Many cold-rolled steels are used in the automotive industry, but some are also used to make household goods.

Stainless steels differ from carbon steels by their chromium content, and in some cases nickel. Adding chromium to carbon steel makes it more rust and stain resistant, while adding nickel to chromium stainless steel improves its mechanical properties such as density, heat capacity and strength. For example, stainless steel sheets are used to make machinery, tools and containers.

Carbon coil, a type of steel, generally contains only small amounts of elements other than carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus, and therefore has no significant alloying elements. Carbon coils are suitable for secondary applications where surface quality is not particularly required. Our carbon coil steel is available in a variety of grades and thicknesses to support countless applications of this metal. We supply hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, aluminized and painted carbon coils. Available grades include DC01-DC07, 08AL, SC1-SC3, SPCC,SPCD,SPCE, SPCF, SPCG, CR1-CR5, CS,DS, DDS, EDDS.

Galvanized coil produced when hot-rolled or cold-rolled sheet or strip is coated with zinc by a hot dip or electrolytic deposition process. Zinc coatings applied by hot dipping are usually heavy enough to resist corrosion without additional protective coatings. Due to the thin zinc coating, electronic galvanized materials without subsequent chemical treatment and painting cannot be used in corrosion resistant applications except under mildly corrosive conditions. Galvanizing is a pure zinc coating. A special heat treatment process converts the pure zinc coating into a zinc/iron alloy coating, the product is called galvanizing. Galvanized sheet is used, for example, in the automotive industry or in the production of roofing materials (eg flashing, gutters).
